With no definite source of raws these weeks (or, just not as fast as before), I thought we could tease ourselves with blog entries until the raws of chapter 203 arrive. From THE LAST FRUIT blog,

座敷で花を生ける四月一日に声がかかる。その声の主は、例のおでん屋の子狐だった。四月一日に教えてもらった鈴カステラを食べてみてほしい、と。話を聞くと、自分で作ったカステラを屋台で売って、お父さんに誕生日プレゼントに前掛けをあげたいそうだ。
四月一日は感心すると、「さて、おれも用意しとくか」と呟く。


子狐が帰り、しばらくすると百目鬼がやってきた。3月3日―――今日は百目鬼の誕生日だ。雛祭りが百目鬼の誕生日なんてこれ程似合わないことはないとぼやく四月一日。

雛祭りは厄よけが目的。そして桃の節句とも言う。桃には邪気を祓う力があるとされ、それに合わせて雛祭りが3月3日に行われる。

「だから、女子だけの節句ってわけじゃねぇよ」酒をグラスに注ぎながら百目鬼は話した。
「桃は邪気を祓う、か」先ほど生けた桃の花を見つめて四月一日は呟いた。

「そう考えると、おまえらしい誕生日って言えなくもないのかもな」そう言った四月一日は懐から、矢の模様が刻まれた指輪を取り出した。桃と同じ力を持つ百目鬼に贈られるリングの意味とは…

八百比丘尼の話が終わって、前回までが17巻の収録分になるのかな？
久しぶりに子狐登場でかわいいｖ女郎蜘蛛も出たし、雨童女や座敷童女も登場してほしいところ。絶対 座敷童女は四月一日のこと心配してるよ・・・。

今回は百目鬼の誕生日ネタ。今までに誕生日ネタは四月一日だけだったし、百目鬼の誕生日ネタにはどんな意味があるんでしょう。指輪に刻まれている矢の模様は「破邪矢」かな。桃と同じで邪気を祓う効果があるし。ただ、元からその力がある百目鬼にどうして改めてそんな指輪を？・・・やっぱり婚約ｙ（ｒｙ

てか、今が３月３日なら、四月一日の誕生日ももうすぐなんだね。そのときにはひまわりちゃんも、きっと雨童女や座敷童女も来てくれるんじゃないかな・・・。でもきっと何か起こるんだろうね。・・・たぶん、良くないことが(>_<)
もしそこで大きな事件が起こるとしたら、それがxxxHOLiCのクライマックスになるのかも、とか思ったり。四月一日自身と彼を大切に思う人たちで、乗り越えて、幸せになってほしい。

夜に訪れた百目鬼に、家には寄ってきたのか、と確認する。俺が言わないとこんな日にまでそのまま外泊するつもりだったなんて、とぼやく四月一日に、百目鬼は家のもんは気にしねぇがな、と淡泊に答えた。
今夜の食事はおまえの好きなものばかりにした、と言いつつも、これほど似合わない誕生日もない、と軽く憎まれ口を叩く、百目鬼の誕生日である3月3日。
桃の節句は上巳の節句であり、邪気を祓うものだから女の節句でもない、と淡々と謂われを延べていく百目鬼。伊達に大学に行ってないか、と揶揄しながら、四月一日はこれ、と彼の掌に何かを載せる。
それは、矢を象ったような文様の印された指輪だった──

お誕生日のエピソード繋がりで、リアル時期に合わせた桃の節句のお話。侑子さんがいない分、より百目鬼君がこういう謂われをしっかり話す役割になってるなー。桃太郎って百目鬼君に言われると、ちょっと可愛い（笑）。まぁ本来端午の節句も別に子供の日じゃなく、邪気払いの儀式的なものだしね。
百目鬼君のお家って、遙さん以外はっきり描かれないけどどういうご家庭なんだろう。連日というよりほぼずっと家にいないんだろうし…。まー大学4年ともなれば独立してるようなもんだけど。

相変わらず子狐君が可愛いｖ　鈴カステラとおでんって不思議な屋台になりそうだけど。可愛い子が美味しいもの売ってたら売れるだろう。お店から出られない四月一日君の為、おでん屋さんは店に来てくれてるんだねー。
久しぶりに扉絵があって、ここで四月一日君の心情と決意を語ってきたエピソードが一旦終了して、いよいよ話が展開していく、のかな。

それにしても四月一日君が百目鬼君に渡した指輪はどんな意味が。…というと、ま、なんなんだけども（笑）。それは置いといて、破邪矢を射る力を持つ百目鬼君に、矢の印された指輪かー。力を強化する為なのかな…？
百目鬼君の『選択』は四月一日君の為、であるとしても、四月一日君にとってはどうなんだろう？　利害が一致してるとも限らないんだろうと態度からして思えるし、四月一日君の持つ力からして、或る程度わかってることだろうし…。まだ卵の出番は来てないし、今後が不安もありつつ楽しみ。

The engagement thing is the blogger's reaction to the ring that Watanuki gave Doumeki for his birthday XD The ring has something engraved on it (I think it's an arrow. I'm not sure about that though...)

They talked about how Doumeki's birthday is on Hinamatsuri (also known as Girl's Day XD), and also about how peach flowers have the same power as Doumeki.

The part after the huge text is pretty much the blogger's reaction to the chapter. He/she thinks since the little fox and Lady Spider appeared, Amewarashi and Zashikiwarashi should appear soon. Watanuki's birthday is coming up too, so we'll be able to see Himawari soon....although the blogger thinks something bad might happen..


I'm not good at Japanese so some of these are probably wrong ^^;;...

Hmm. This is one of the few instances we hear of Doumeki's family. He didn't even go home for his own birthday! His folks are probably worried about what he gets up to.

It's kind of strange how nobody else is around to celebrate Doumeki's birthday aside from Watanuki. You'd think at least Kohane would be there, although Doumeki isn't the type to go around inviting people. Doumeki practically has his life revolving around Watanuki and until this I didn't know how big. Devotion is nice and all but he has to pay attention to his family once in awhile.

Well, we've all been looking for a template as to why Doumeki would do all this stuff for Watanuki. Most signs point to Doumeki having some sort of unrequited love towards Watanuki but since Doumeki doesn't interact much with other people we can't 'slice and dice' his intentions.

Although if we got some sort of quip from his family just once it might shed some light on the situation. Why, aside from Haruka, is CLAMP keeping the rest of Doumeki's family in the shadows? Why mention the grandfather and grandson but none of the in between?

Thanks for the translation! Aaah, CLAMP, now I can't stop associating peaches with Doumeki. And I love how that blogger seems to be on crack, it's much needed with where this new is headed, it seems.

(And erm, the ring? I thought the man was pure and all already, why would he need a ring with powers? And a ring of all things, CLAMP? Really? *snorts away*).

Well, at least we're getting a change of flowers instead of the ever-present sakura. But all this talk of peaches and peach flowers makes me wonder if Touya is going to make a cameo appearance.

I also wonder if Doumeki's power isn't just because he's inherited it. We've had the message that birthdays are important over and over in this series and in Tsubasa, and now that his birthday is oh so coincidentally on a day to ward off evil spirits.
