[Discussion] TRC ch 232
Sep. 30th, 2009 07:38 amHave you gotten a chance to catch up?
Observing much ranting going on.
Please feel free to rage here, too.
Or will you wait until the extra chapter to pass judgment?
Anyone confused?
Anyone feel that this part clicked and made total sense?
What kind of conclusion were you hoping for?
What do you hope for in the extra chapter?
I'm still waiting for the slight 'ah-ha' moment just to tie everything together in a more convincing manner though the style of this ending is very CLAMP to me.

Date: 2009-09-30 12:20 pm (UTC)I'm really looking forward to the extra chapter too. I don't think that every single tiny little side-story needs a precise resolution, so I'd be happy just to have the main five show up there, too.
This is pretty much the conclusion I wanted from the start, actually. XD Well, the basic premise. FWR defeated. SSKF being all familial... etc.

I hope for chapter 233! Kuro and Fay cannot be sat around the desert and STOP!!!

Date: 2009-09-30 01:09 pm (UTC)There's a lot I've found wrong with Tsubasa towards the end, but if anything I'd say it's the fact that CLAMP succeeded in killing their characters long before this chapter. The clone-shuffling simply took out any emotional investment one, as the reader, may have had with them, or at least made it very difficult to care. At which point the characters are officially dead.
And I admit I'm sure I missed something, but I never got what FWR was up to, exactly*. I always assumed there was an explanation somewhere between "SWOOOSHHHH" and "SHH-SHIIINK" or whatever the special effects padding every other page were.
Edit:
* Not through reading the manga, at least, though the Wikipedia page helped.

Date: 2009-09-30 03:11 pm (UTC)Maybe I can help you out. Had you actually been READING the manga, you might have caught that:
A) The Syao and Saku who began the journey with Kurogane and Fay were clones. Syaoran was cloned a few yrs ago when he was about 7 yrs old and so the real Syaoran has been aging slowly in a tube until Acid Tokyo, when he finally breaks free and comes to join the team. Sakura was cloned around the same time when she was cleansing herself in some purification water, so the Real Sakura who is still alive and kicking in chapter 232 was that 7 yr old Sakura- oddly she now inhabits the body of a 14-16 yr old girl and life should be a lot more confusing for her than it evidently is- as she claims she knew this would happen- this leads me to believe that like R!Syaoran who has been watching Clone Syaoran's journeys, R!Sakura has also been watching through the eyes of C!Sakura- only I don't think R!Sakura's memories were ever erased.
Few chapters back, you find out that clone Syaoran and clone Sakura were reborn in some random world, married, did the dirty, and C!Saku gave birth to R!Syaoran. How? FWR basically threw all of reality out of whack.
Back to chapter 231- Sakura and Syaoran (clones/parents) become feathers. Chapter 232: Those feathers enter into real Sakura and Syaoran, and we're left to believe that they now have their memories and thus have sort of fused.
2) FWR, Yuuko, and Clow Reed: Yuuko was dying, once-upon a time. CLOW and FWR were both disheartened by this, (I assume they were both in love with her) and Clow Reed cries a tear, and with just his thought: 'I wish she didn't have to die' her death is frozen- so she's stuck in an ever-dying state or some crap. Clow Reed didn't mean to put a halt to her death- he's just so powerful that the mere thought activated his powers. FWR, on the other hand, is trying to bring her back from the dead or make it so that she never has to die. (I'm left to assume that he was in love with her, as his final words were something along the lines of 'I never got to tell her I...' which kind of ties in with the beginning of the manga and is somewhat of a recycled theme: Sakura was going to tell Syaoran how she felt and never did, and he never told her either, and her memories were lost and (up until the recent chapters) they lost the chance to tell each other how they felt.
In conclusion: Try READING the manga and PAYING ATTENTION before accusing CLAMP of killing the characters off volumes ago- kthx. ♥

Date: 2009-09-30 01:19 pm (UTC)FWR's character ended up being mediocre, together with Xing Huo and Kyle Rondart. The lack of back up information behind FWR actions, Past and relationship with Clow Reed and Yuuko transformed the whole journey into something completely devoid of any sens nor interest.
Clow Reed's role in all this is vague too: we know he unconsciously made a wish, we also know he regretted it and went to Clow Country after the time was rewound the first time and paid in advance for the clone's reincarnation. What did he come to Clow Country for, really? What is that thing he had to do absolutely, even at the price of being separated from his beloved persons by coming to Clow country? What is his relationship with FWR? etc..
The use of what I call the 'cryptic factor' was excessive and turned repetitive (=boring) in the last volumes.
Real|Syaoran was very interesting when he first appeared: unlike the clone, he appeared to have a lot more emotions and depth to his character, which turned him into a favorite in my heart very fast.
Unfortunately, again, Clamp were excessive: his perpetual angst and show of guilt and pain, which was really truthful and througly touching, was extended too far for too long...
Furthermore, while he had the best intentions, his numerous successive wishes which -most- had dangerous ends, plus his fights which always ended up all or partly in failures (he failed in stopping his clone in Tokyo, he failed in stopping the princess from 'escaping' in Infinity, he couldn't stop clone|Sakura from being stabbed in Nihon, taking the princess's hand did no good in Clow ruins, in Celes he did nothing much either, in the final battle his 'parents' did most of the work etc..), dulled my feelings toward him, which was really extremely positive in the start.
Their previous series, Card Captor Sakura, was abused to the point of vulgar fanservice: we all remember CCS|Sakura meaningless appearance in a flashback repeated twice about her giving away her Star Wand without any official (yep, put in bold because if it's fans interpretations, many of you would list endless answers ^^;;) explanation behind it: How did she get inside the Dream face to face with Clone|Sakura? How did she know about this? How come she said her wand was 'precious' to the clone? How did she even know she had to give away her wand and not something else? Being more powerful then Clow Reed and so kind toward others, why not do anything about this issue (the universe being destroyed...) is she obviously has the power to do so? How come her Star Magic, shown in CCS to be her very own exclusive creation, could be used freely by her clone as if nothing? etc..
The official explanation about 'Syaoran' being Clow Reed blood relative is still eternally on hold.
Watanuki was included in neither 'Syaoran' not their 'parents' flashbacks, even though Yuuko insisted so much on how his cooking reminded her of his father's (just when did she get to eat Clone|Syaoran cooking....?) or how his 'parents' sacrificed themselves for his sake and promised to come back for him absolutely etc.. which implied he was very close to them during a period that was never revealed to us in any way and, all along, Clone-parents|SxS only ever truly showed real interest in their son 'Syaoran'.
A very unerving thing: it was repeated all along that Fate/Future could be changed, but in the end, we could see that everything went as they were supposed to for most of the story (=90%), else, there is no way Clow Reed could have paid long long looonngg in advance for the reincarnation of the clones: both him and Yuuko knew how things would turn out till almost the very last moment.
*sigh*
And there is a lot more to say but I will stop here, too tired :P

Date: 2009-09-30 02:02 pm (UTC)TRC was a huge disapointment for me.
The only good thing is that now I know that Watanuki didn't feel right about giving up his freedom (I assume that's the price he paid), makes me think better of him now =)
And I couldn't care less about Sakuras and Syaorans. I got tired of them, I just want my KuroFay, dammit. ¬¬

Date: 2009-09-30 03:32 pm (UTC)I think the FWR recycled 'I never got to tell her I loved her' stuff which recycles Sakura and Syaoran's lost chances to share their feelings may provide Kurogane and Fay encouragement to actually share whatever feelings they have- as a fellow fangirl, I hope this is the case- but if that's what happens, and they recycle the 'tell the person how you feel before you miss the chance' idea, I'll be thankful to the original characters who allowed for such a thing to be tied back in with the beginning... but I just wish people would stop with the annoying 'it was boring' 'I don't get it' 'too much stuff didn't get answered' it just makes them seem disrespectful to CLAMP, TRC, the plot, etc.
Nice icon, though- very pretty.

Date: 2009-09-30 02:05 pm (UTC)I feel like they're leaving things like that to make people buy Holic because everything will be explained there or something. Or maybe they were just sick of writing it. I really hope the extra chapter gives me a pleasant surprise and tehy explain some thing. I'd really like to see what's happened to the secundary characters of other worlds, like Tomoyo.

Date: 2009-09-30 03:36 pm (UTC)As for who the fuck FWR was, and why he wanted to revive Yuuko- did you even READ the manga? I think it's pretty obvious he was in love with her and was willing to go to any lengths to keep her from dying- even killing and manipulating others. He seemed like he had little development and personality, but I think there's a lot of depth to his character if you actually analyze the chapters that focus on him. In Fay's past arc, you see that he's very touched by Fay's question as to whether he's trying to bring back a loved one- in the more recent chapters where he was killed, you hear him utter something along the lines of 'I never got to tell her how I felt...' so basically he was doing all this horrible stuff for the one he loved- evil? Yes, to some extent- but human? Definitely- very interesting and dynamic character if you look away from his chin long enough to analyze him. As for the rest, there is another final-final (epilogue) chapter coming out- maybe it'll tie up some loose ends. Even if it doesn't, I think we can take from what we know about the series and assume that Kurogane will work hard to get back to Nihon, but he will also make sure the others go to where they belong. Tomoyo will probably be awaiting their return.

Date: 2009-09-30 02:18 pm (UTC)... just wanted to be the combo breaker there.
I think the only reason I'm not flipping out is that I don't think the story is over. I feel like the whole Yuuko/Clow/FWR thing is going to continue into XXXHOLiC (might have something to do with Mysterious Customer-san), and I'm betting the special chapter of TRC will be an epilogue that tells us where everyone ends up. If that doesn't happen, heads will roll. But at the moment, I'm waiting. There's a tl;dr rant version of this on my journal if anyone cares, haha.
my expression at the end was like DDDDDDDD:
Date: 2009-09-30 02:21 pm (UTC)anyway, i was really disappointed. ccs!sakura's cameo really got my hopes up on ccs really intertwining with the trc storyline. plus now that the clones disappearing would really make their promise to watanuki kind of hard. unless there will be more paradoxery and watanuki will now be the remaining sxs's child?
we still don't know what happened to everyone else, D: does sakura still have a world to go back to? or are they all planning on relocating to Nihon or something?
this all makes me feel like how i felt when i finished Deathly Hallows and the epilogue-that-shouldn't-have-existed.
*please don't take the paragraphs above really seriously... it's half crack as it is already.
Re: my expression at the end was like DDDDDDDD:
Date: 2009-09-30 02:28 pm (UTC)...totally true.
and TRC is kind of the opposite where it needs an epilogue.

Date: 2009-09-30 02:31 pm (UTC)however, it is clear already that a lot of questions will be left unanswered, we just don't know which ones, and that pisses me off. Even if we get to see Fei Wong's tragic story in xxxHolic it's still not fair, because that makes Tsubasa's plot very incomplete. and I don't like lousy villains and bad story-telling.
a happy KuroFay ending is mandatory too.

Date: 2009-09-30 03:39 pm (UTC)But yeah, I'm excitedly awaiting the final chapter, too. I'm also not going to whine about how things are right now- A) there's stll stuff that I'm sure will be covered B) If the stuff I want to get covered doesn't get covered in the next chapter- no biggy. This was a crossover series- I have no doubt that we may even see some or all of these characters again in another of CLAMP's manga. ;)

Date: 2009-09-30 03:24 pm (UTC)I'm not so much disappointed as extremely confused.
- Clone!Shaolan is gone, turned into a feather again, right? But... Clone!Sakura... she turned into a feather too while R!Shaolan was gone? o_o She disappeared 'off stage'? Coz Sakura is crying and holding a feather when Shaolan reappears... That feather is the other Sakura?
- Watanuki was the clones' son, right? But was he Real!Shaolan's twin, or.. another magical self or sth? >___< *lost*
- Also lost as to why one of the feather goes back in real!Shaolan... aren't they supposed to be Sakura's feathers...?
- And I thought Wata not aging and not leaving the shop was because of his wish to wait for Yuuko... But in fact it's to pay the price of Shaolan leaving the black void/world back to go back to the others?
Can't think straight XDD I did read all of the available scans, but I feel like I stopped understanding what was really going on chapters ago >__< (perhaps that also came from focusing too much on the KuroxFai lol).
I need an epilogue Y.Y
I will not be satisfied if I don't have a picture of Kuro and Fai now living together X) (come on, have you seen Fai's pale skin? He can't possibly live with Sakura and Shaolan in a desert :P He needs to go to Nihon, where it's temperate >.> :P )
Thank you so mcuh!
*hugs all Tsubasa fans*

Both ‘clones’ turned into feathers and enter into the real Syaoran and Sakura- basically this means that they will absorb all their memories and they won’t really cease to exist- they are sort of ‘fusing’ together.
- Watanuki was the clones' son, right? But was he Real!Shaolan's twin, or.. another magical self or sth? >___< *lost* he wasn’t really a son so much as a being created because of the blows to reality. He was kind of born so that reality would end up even worse off- it’s like the whole ‘for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction’ kind of thing- when Syaoran was cloned, Watanuki also came into being, I guess. That part’s a little sketchy even for me- but I don’t follow XXXholic so much.
- Also lost as to why one of the feather goes back in real!Shaolan... aren't they supposed to be Sakura's feathers...?
Again, the feathers were the memories of both of the clones, so the feathers went into Syaoran and Sakura to fuse their memories with the respective partner’s. This way they all stay together, to some degree.
I need an epilogue Y.Y

I actually want them all to stay together ;_; but I guess that’s a bit impossible, since Sakura belongs in her world. Syaoran has nowhere to go, since his parents were the clones, so I assume he’ll go with Sakura, but Sakura had Touya and Yukito and family, so I guess she kind of needs to go home- and since she is technically already in her world, in her timeline, the need for travel would be useless. I know Kurogane will head back to Nihon, but I actually am not sure if Fay would stay with the kids or go with Kurogane. Then there’s Mokona- (I think she’s still around…)- I bet if Mokona stayed with Syaoran and Sakura, and Fay went with Kurogane, because Fay would just have to recharge his powers a lot, I still think he could hop dimensions- it would just take longer. He could say something like ‘I’ll help Kuro-pii go back to his world,’ and then they could always visit each other, though it would take a lot of magic… but who knows- I’m sure the upcoming epilogue will tie off some loose ends.
Either way, I still enjoyed the series very much. :D

Date: 2009-09-30 03:45 pm (UTC)But, yeah. Clamp never ties things up completely, and it seemed to be pretty par for the course on that front. And I mean, they broke the world to make it whole, I'm not sure if there's any fitting way to end it but understatement, after that.
The manga has been about Shaoran and Sakura being able to be together from the beginning, and now they are. There are worse endings.
That said, though, I can sympathize with the disappointment.

Date: 2009-09-30 05:08 pm (UTC)I'll probably have to re-read the last volume before I decide whether it makes sense as a whole. The week-to-week schedule has made me think that the conclusion was clumsily put together. Of course, next week's chapter could totally change everyone's minds. CLAMP would totally do something like that....
