CLAMP to Publish New Card Captor Sakura Manga

The April issue of Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine announced on Thursday that the members of the creative team CLAMP are publishing a new manga in their Cardcaptor Sakura franchise. The announcement does not list any details about the new work, and the magazine says it will announce which future issue will run the new manga when that is decided. The Japanese wording of the announcement indicates that the new manga is not a full-length series.

The March issue of the magazine had listed last month that the franchise would be getting a new project. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the original manga. NHK's BS Premium will re-run the Clow Card arc of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime in April, starting on April 6. A book compiling previously published illustrations will ship on March 24. Six Animate Cafés in Japan will host a Cardcaptor Sakura theme starting on April 1.

I don’t care if it’s short, even if it’s only one volume! Wait: I care; no, make it more than one volume dammit >.<
I have only one thing to say: TAKE MY MONEY! Yes! I am asking them to please milk the CCS manga as much as they want! If it’s new manga drawn by CLAMP, I’m fine with it! And hopefully, CLAMP will do use the favor to release the chapters on time, and with no breaks! ;)

EDIT [03/03]: following this post from Comic Natalie, it seems like the new manga to be released will only be a oneshot.
More info are yet to be released beyond that.

Honestly I rather they go back working to their other indefinite hiatus work. I wanna see Gate7.

I feel like the more they try to stretch the draggy and out of original canon it becomes. It like western comic where they use the same character for different story telling.

Many people reacted like you, and said they wished for CLAMP to continue their other series instead; and while I do want them to pick up their works on hiatus, I confess I can't help being surprised by these reactions of rejections: getting new chapters of Card Captor Sakura is like a dream come true! The thing many people thought about inside, and hoped for, but never sincerely believed it was going to actually happen…IT IS HAPPENING NOW!! This is an once in a lifetime thing that came up after a 15 years wait, I am very pleased and enjoying it very much ^_^


And as a more direct answer to your post: these new chapters will be released as a celebration of the 20th anniversary, and the announcement says very clearly that this is not a full length series… So this is not “CCS 2.0”, “CCS re-” or “The Rebuilt of Evangelion urh... of CCS” XD

My point is: this will not interfere in the long term with their other series. At most, I predict it will last during 2016 if we are lucky, and we are already in March and still waiting for an announcement about when the first chapter is even going to be released ^^;

I may not share you enthusiasm but I'm surprise that you view my comment as "reaction to rejection" I do not detest the this new CCS project. I merely stated that I rather see them comeback from hiatus of their other project (oh, how much would I love if they do X comeback for its 20th anniversary 4 years ago).

Also my hampered enthusiasm maybe cause that I view TRC and TWC as CCS.

CCS maybe their well love series but their other series don't have the same chance to become as popular and be milk the as CCS for various reason mainly because not as long serialization and hiatuses.

Don't get me wrong I do love CLAMP and all their work including CCS.

Before coming to this page, I read others views on this subject, people saying they are annoyed, wondering if they should be really happy or sad, or that they are really not too fond of it bcs CCS is already a finished series (a sound argument actually), or "what about their others works on hiatus like X?" etc..
There really are tons of different opinions about it around the net ^^ No one hates it, but some are not too enthusiast about it because they like other series of CLAMP more, which is perfectly normal, to each their own likes! (On the other side, many fans are really happy of course~)

When I saw your post, it felt like a direct continuation of everything I read minutes before, so my answer ended up unconsciously directed both to you and the reviews I just saw, I wasn't talking to you in particular (which is why I wrote "these reactions of rejections" in plural), but to the surprisingly lukewarm reaction of the fandom in general, a "we are happy BUT.." kind of thing, while in my little LALA Land I naively had imagined some huge explosion of cheers...

But you took the word "rejection" too strongly though ^^; It never occurred to me from reading your post that you hated CCS, just that as my other fans of CLAMP, your preferences were different and you would have rather seen Gate7 first than CCS, in order of priority.

These new chapters will be released as a celebration of the 20th anniversary, and the announcement says very clearly that this is not a full length series: I personally predict it will last during 2016 if we are lucky, even though as you've seen in my post, I wish for a lot more! :D This is an once in a lifetime thing that is happening after a 15 years wait!

The chances of their being breaks or a full blown hiatus for a serialization which won't last more than a few chapters is pretty much zero!

Yeah, I figured as much XD looking forward to the new chapters! Hopefully the art style is similar to the ones we've been seeing on the new CCS manga covers / new artwork, and not too similar to TRC / xxxHolic / Gate 7. As much as I do love CLAMP, there are just some styles of theirs that I prefer more. :)

Clamp's ability to switch from one style of drawing to another depending on the manga series is definitely one of their selling points! :D I can't think of any other mangakas that do that~

And I am not worried about the drawing style: we will definitely be getting our flowers, stars and clouds a bit everywhere, dreamy shoujo style! :D My fav drawing style of CLAMP too ^^
Now that I am thinking about it, I remember being really shocked the first time I saw the drawing style of TRC, it was really brutally different from the Sakura and Syaoran I've known till then, but I got used to it in time, and totally love it too now ^__^

If we are basing ourselves only on the information given by Nakayoshi, then it's "a new manga of card captor sakura, but not a full length series" = they didn't give away the number of chapters, but this is not CCS 2.0

But if we take in account Comic Natalie, then it's "oneshot"...

I told chibiyuuto that I would still cross my fingers in hope that Comic Natalie was wrong, but as he very well answered: we don't know her sources, but we have yet to see erroneous info on her website to this day.

End of the line: I think it's strange to call just a oneshot a "new project", so I decided to wait for Nakayoshi to give us more information about this!

Needless to say, I am hoping for the most pages possible!!
Maybe it will be "extra stories" you know? A series of oneshots for example that could be compiled in 1 volume? Or "one story" that could extend on several chapters?

Because only a oneshot really doesn't convince me at all. 15 years with no manga material AT ALL of CCS, then...a oneshot as a 20th anniversary celebration? I expect more than that!

Thanks for the response :) , I agree with you , I think it doesn't make sense that they make such a big fuss about a "new project" when is going to be so small and forgettable ... I do believe and pray XD that this new project will be relevant and give us something to remember , I'm expecting at least one whole volume of extra material , my two favorite options are : similar to yours , which is additional info about the characters sort of small chapters to see how their lifes went after the last chapter of the original story or explain in more detail how Sakura could hand her staff to the clone and connect her story with tsubasa *.* , anyway i just Want a New volume to add to my sakura series collection , am i asking for too much ? XD
