Volumes 5 and 6 are scheduled to be released in less than 24h in Japan, and here are the first previews of the covers, from Kodansha website:

I was actually genuinely surprised:
1-Kero&Yue are vol06's cover instead of vol05 like it was expected (meaning there was really no error in the pamphlet included in vol03-04, they were indeed advretising for vol06), since vol05 content is about the Last judgement in which both characters appear in their true forms for the 1st time
and 2-a whole cover was actually dedicated to...Mizuki sensei! Not that she isn't an important character, but I expected her to appear with Eriol or not at all, not for her to have her own stand alone cover~ This is the very first artwork showing Sakura x Mizuki ever made since the creation of the series!!!
Also, the cover's layout changed as expected: we went from Moon to Star in the bottom, from Sun to Star on top, and from little stars to a little monn and sun on the sides! I also suspect the back cover switched from Clow's magic circle to Sakura's magic circle~
There are now 3 covers left: vol07-08-09 : vol09 is definitely Sakura X Syaoran, no mystery here, also the pencil sketch revealed on Ohkawa's birthday a few weeks ago is now definitely either vol07 or vol08 cover, and since the only characters left are Spinel and Ruby, they will either both appear with Sakura in a cover, or be included together with the one with Eriol? Well, there are still questions about the last 3 artworks I guess? ;)

Date: 2015-05-28 11:07 am (UTC)Don't forget that Sakura won the final judgment with Kaho's moon bell. Most of the cards that Sakura picked were under Yue's jurisdiction.
For vol05's cover, I love their tiny hats & outfits.

Date: 2015-05-28 12:05 pm (UTC)And indeed, Mizuki did play an important role in the Final Judgement, it just felt like the revelation of Yuki being Yue and Kero's true form (he has bragged about for so long) to have more impact to me personally.
That said, both cover are absolutely gorgeous, I can't get enough of CCS new art, and it feels like the end is coming too soon already, only three illustrations left!!
Also, I didn't mention it above, but the cover's layout of vol06 changed beautifully too: we went from Moon to Star, and I expected the back cover to be Sakura's new magic circle too :)
[updated post with bigger preview in case you're interested, I will keep doing it until I find good ones]

Date: 2015-05-29 04:48 am (UTC)And on my side, I was actually supposed to purchase vol05-06-07-08 (07 and 08 are already available for preorder on amazon.jp) all together to save on shipping cost, and receive them all at the beginning of august (since vol08 release date is july 31st), but yeah, couldn't wait either, I'm receiving vol06-07 next week...
I shall definitely resist for vol07-08 though!! I have so many things to buy in June, it would be suicide to add a CCS manga on top of it all hahaha~
Post updated with the best previews.

Date: 2015-05-30 08:57 am (UTC)As to the bonus illustrations, the one for vol5 is the Sakura/Syaoran/Tomoyo picnic illustration, while vol6 has the party one with the trio plus Eriol and Syaoran ^^ I can't wait for the last three volumes!

Date: 2015-05-30 11:56 am (UTC)You always beat me by a few days getting the books! >.< Actually, from the DHL tracking, they arrived in my city on friday morning and should have been delivered in the afternoon, but no one came...so it will be monday morning!! ^_^
And OMG, I am SO happy about the digital artworks they chose to share: they all include Syaoran!! :D And even without that, those are genuinely some of my favorite out of all the mobile game arts ;)
And I'm twice as happy now, since the news about the Special Edition of Volume09 which includes printed B6 cards of all 9 digital illustrations, so we will get them all prettily printed on paper, kyyaaahhh!! XD XD

Date: 2015-05-30 12:32 pm (UTC)Those two illustrations were one of my favorites too, so I was very pleased as well when they showed up :D and lol I didn't realize that Spinel was also part of the party illustration in volume 6 XD
So that was what the news was all about?! OMGGGG I can imagine the pretty when it finally comes out! But wait, does that mean we get TWO volume 9s? :OOO

And to answer directly to your question: yes, there will be a Regular Edition and a Special Edition :)

Date: 2015-05-29 10:28 pm (UTC)Question for you, if you don't mind me asking. Do you think its better to order them all individually now, or wait until they release a box set? I'd be shipping to the States and I have a feeling shipping costs are going to be a bear. Plus, I don't want them to sell out either. xD
Thanks for any input you might have!

Date: 2015-05-30 09:25 am (UTC)I've personally never seen such thing for any manga (Japan), though it's true I never looked for it either, but I at least never saw such thing for clamp's recent books as far as I can remember. The only things that are released afterwards, are things like re-editions, special editions and so on...
I did see on amazon.co.jp all 12 volumes of CCS sold together for example, but this is something Amazon themselves did, not the Publishers of the books.
From what I saw, vol02-03-04 are already out of stock in amazon.jp, but they've recently came back on amiami just a few days ago. They are also all still available on CDJapan.
For the shipping cost, I don't know which online store you usually use to order your goods from Japan, but here is an example of what I pay with amazon.jp:
->I bought vol05-06 = 980jpy each = 1960jpy
->the shipping cost is 1800jpy (initial 1400jpy, then +400jpy for each additional item) for international DHL (only option available for overseas orders), I live in Spain and get my books in 3 days, including the day they were sent.
->Total = 3760jpy = 30usd
The shipping cost for amiami and CDJapan are ok too, but of course it's not DHL and if you want to save money, you are obviously not going to choose the most expensive options they offer; but I don't think it's a problem if you get the mangas after a couple of weeks!
I tried it out with CDJapan, and here is what buying vol01-02-03-04-05-06-07 would cost you for the united states:
FedEx International Priority= 4580 yen / order total = 11440 yen
Express Mail Service (EMS) = 7000 yen / order total= 13860 yen
Registered Air Mail = 4590 yen / order total = 11450 yen
Air Mail = 4180 yen / order total = 11040 yen
SAL = 2700 yen / order total = 9560 yen
Registered SAL = 3110 yen / order total = 9970 yen
In my case, I bought vol01-02, then vol03-04, then vol05-06, so right now, I spent 3x3760=11280jpy in 3 months, and I've still got vol07-08-09 to think about.
That said, if you compare it to the prices above from CDjapan, you can see that I paid almost the exact same amount buying them separately like I did compared to buying all of them together, and using the most expensive shipping method too (the prices for the US and Spain are almost identical in CDJapan).
Summary = If you have any intentions to save money, it will only be by choosing the cheapest shipping method possible, because if you were planning on using DHL, Fedex, EMS or Airmail, then you might as well buy them progressively each month. The risk of waiting to get them all together: stocks of the books.
All in all, you might want to purchase them sooner better than later is my personal input I suppose?
