Hi, I have a question about Del-Rey's english releases of xxxHolic. I just recently got into buying the english releases, and I noticed that some of the newer volumes have colored pictures at the beginning of the volume. I was wondering if this is new? Or did the older volumes used to have colored pictures too and the second editions don't? And does Tsubasa have colored pictures at the beginning of any of its volumes?

I don't actually buy the xxxHolic releases, but none of the Del Rey releases (including Tsubasa) that I've ever bought have had colored pages, so I'm guessing it's new. :]

All of my copies of xxxHolic except for the 3-volume omnibus have colored pages at the beginning of the volume. I can't say if it's new or not but I've been buying the series for the last three of so years (if that means anything).

There are no colored pages in any of the Del-Rey Tsubasa volumes that I've bought.

usually the 1st printing will have colored pages if the publisher offers colored pages at all. so if you buy a volume that was released a few years ago, it's probably on its 2nd or 3rd printing..which won't have the colored pages.

I think my first volumes are all coloured, except for volume 6, and then the rest are randomly coloured... huh, this always bothered me, but I just thought a first print meant coloured spreads. Can you list which volumes came with a colour spread and which not? :3 I'm highly interested in which are which.

I got confused with my original Japanese ones, but -- the only coloured ones I own are those of 11—14, all the past volumes are non-coloured. Surely because all of my previous volumes were not first-edition ones.

All of the first editions/first printings of every xxxHOLiC volume have color pages.

This is new, although I believe the first edition of volume one had the coloured pages, but I can't seem to find my copy.

However, I have my volumes two and three and they have no colour pages. I bought them around the time that either volume four or five had come out. I just don't know.

Your xxxHolic question seems to be answered, but as for Tsubasa only the first printing of volume 1 had color pages. None of the following volumes had them, no matter what printing you got.

I've got a few colour spreads in my xxxholic volumes scattered about here and there, in both Tanoshimi (UK publisher) and Del Ray versions.

I somehow get lucky and always have colored pages in my HOLiC (buying DelRay version from the Philippines). I noticed Tsubasa never had a color page but I haven't been following it.

I'm currently in exchange in France and I find the French lucky to have a publisher meticulous on the presentation of the book. It looks and feels exactly like the Japanese version (it feels like you are holding a thick silky novel) and have colored pages at the same time

It should be that all of the first editions have color pages.

If you're curious what printing you have, check the page with all the fine print and copyright info. There should be a line of numbers like this:
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1

If it goes all the way to "1," that's the first printing. If it stops at 3, that's the third printing. And so on.

PS: When you buy your book isn't always the best indicator, because of returns. So if you want the color pages you can still get lucky depending on how inventory moves around, but it does get harder.

Only first printings get the colour pages and I have resorted to buying used copies as the older ones are hard to find.
