Hello Clamp Now,
I have two things to say, the first one concerning the fans :

Like everyone knows, CLAMP will be in Paris for Japan Expo 2009, and thus many French communities wanted to make something to celebrate (a T-shirt or a badge). But following a mail from Pika (the French editor of most of CLAMP’s works) and Kaze (the French editor of CLAMP's anime for some time), it was recommended not to wear such things, because Japan Expo visitors will be will watched very carefully for any form of counterfeit or illegal use of images.

So, to conclude : T-shirts and badges are not allowed.

On the other hand, there will be a big booth dedicated to CLAMP with official merchandise from Japan (which is legal according to them).
To make it short, wearing a T-shirt stating “Clamp, I love you” with an image of Sakura above these words is forbidden according to Pika and Kaze. (I am not aware of SEFA’s official position, SEFA being the association managing Japan Expo but I will call them this week to hear their point of view on this subject)

By the way, the webzine Ugoku Shinbun joins my community (Clamp Addict) to take advantage of the 10st edition of Japan Expo and try to interview the mythic studio Clamp, so, we need YOU to find interesting questions.

You can ask questions about passages of their works, possible sequels, internal plots, their tastes or their way of working, etc... in the comments and I’ll add them to the list of potential questions.

But to make it clear, nothing is certain, reaching Clamp will not be easy, and if we do succeed, we will be able to ask only a few questions (there will be a selection before Japan Expo)

[Edit] : Second version of the text by Kei-san, thank to her.

I hope they don't mind fan stuff in booths just because CLAMP is there o.o;;; As long as people draw their own fanarts, I mean, not using official images.

But that'd be ridiculous, they speak of fanart as allowed in the guide to Japan Expo booths... They don't name CLAMP stuff directly, but fanart is still fanart.

Wearing a handmade shirt is illegal? Not even selling that shirt, just wearing it?

I find this hilarious since CLAMP got their start as a doujinshi circle.

Interesting, what does this mean to this community's fanbook project then?

The Fanbook has nothing to do with Japan Expo. It will be mailed to CLAMP later and will not have any official art.

What... the hell? Hmm, I think you should check this again, by that logic, cosplay should be illegal.

for the questions you managed to get a private interview or it's during the event scheduled by JE to "ask Clamp a question"? Just asking to know the potential amount of questions that can be answered...

Merci à Kaze et PIKA d'empêcher les Fans de s'exprimer blaireaux cupides. ¬_¬;

Okay, even though I didn't read the official letter, I am pretty sure this doesn't apply to fanwork, in any form. There are many booths making fanarts and fanzines in every French convention, and a number of them make CLAMP fanarts.
I think this is about two things : first, fakes. During my last convention, I saw a Mokona plush toy bearing a Disney label. No kidding, I even took a picture of it if some people want to see it.
Then, the use of official images. Of course you are not allowed to use them on T-shirts or badges! There is a copyright on them. But there is no law against using fanarts (with the agreement of the artist) or writings such "CLAMP we love you" or the name of a community.

OMG, I've never heard of it oO *shocked*
Do you mind sharing Pika/Kaze's mail to clarify this ?

O_o I'm glad I read this, because I would have maybe brought a t-shirt that goes against this guidelines ^^u But why didn't the staff talk about this in the website or something? I think this is important to know: it wouldn't have been funny to go there with a Tsubasa t-shirt just to get you sued or something. Speaking of which, what would be the consequences of wearing or using copyrighted images?

Honestly, I don't think they would do anything against you for wearing such a t-shirt. Booths selling them might have to pay fines, but con-goers, individuals, can't be sued. Maybe they'd tell you not to do it anymore ^^

I find the whole 'no t-shirts with reproductions of artwork please' thing very funny : apart from manga and DVDs, 90% of the things sold at the con is counterfeint. Will they be able to hide THAT to the guests ?
