A surprising discovery...
Apr. 9th, 2009 11:09 amI was looking for stuffs in Amazon.fr and actually end up finding this:
So the limited edition including the OAD Tokyo Revelations was actually released in France on March, 18th 2009 (right on my bday!).
For some reason, I had this fixed idea that the limited edition would never get out of Japan ^^;; And it's CHEAP too! It's only 14,20EUR!!! @___@ *I paid at least the triple to get it from Japan ;_____;*
I already got the jap version and the english subs...I hardly imagine myself getting the french version now ^^;;
But I guess that if I had known it would be released at one point or another, I would have waited...this feeling is very familiar, because I felt the same when the french version of Clamp in WonderLand 1&2 Precious Edition was released, and the whole 224pages booklet was translated in french too, which is indeed a LOT better then my jap version (and AGAIN, cheaper!! 19EUR! TT___TT)

Date: 2009-04-09 09:55 am (UTC)Talking of the waiting game, I'm glad I waited for the UK release of the xxxholic series 1; it took a while, but we got a decent release of 12 episodes over three discs in two box sets. I got the first half in the now shut down Zavvi store, when I was gobsmacked to see quite a few of them sitting on the shelf by chance. I'd say the price of both sets are decent, £30; which is less than a box set of Heroes.
On Manga, I have all Tsubasa and xxxHolic English versions so far, around half of them being UK (Tanoshimi) versions. I've realised that buying Del Ray imports online saves me £5 a go and lots of months waiting time; for basicly the exact same product, different logo.

Date: 2009-04-09 11:16 am (UTC)I have that special edition, I almost squeed and jumped with joy at Virgin when I saw it, I had no idea it was supposed to come with the DVD. And indeed the price is awesome since a Tsubasa volume is usually 6.95€, I was expecting the box to be at least 20/25€. I guess we're lucky.
And the DVD box in itself is very pretty too. I could take pictures if you're interested and didn't see it =)
But PIKA is a good editing press too so I guess they did their job well :D Their translation is also really good.
We have a lot of quite inexpensive artbooks too if you're ever interested~

Date: 2009-04-09 03:50 pm (UTC)How can you say that?! Even though I'm really thankful they published so many things for CLAMP's anniversary and even had them coming, their translation is just... horrible! There are grammatical mistakes, misprints... But I think the worst was the last volume of TRC, when had Mokona tell Shaolan to take his earingS. Yes, plural. From the little I know of Japanese, it's supposed to be quite easy to make the difference between singular and plural, and even without that... couldn't the two translators (because they're two!!) notice after 20 volumes that Mokona has only one earing?!
But, hum, yeah, Pika and their partner Kaze did a good job with the additional DVD. If only because they didn't try to dub it. It's quite simple though, no menu or anything, just the OAD. They are also doing new editions of NORTH SIDE, SOUTH SIDE, and CLAMP Anthologie at lesser prices (15€ for the artbooks and 9,90€ for each Anthology).
The economical conjuncture might have some positive aspects ^^
