Apr. 10th, 2006 06:16 pmHere is the press release. Anime-Expo's homepage has more info!
Who's going?
edit for more info:
"CLAMP will be the guests of honor at this year's Anime Expo held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, from July 1 - 4. They will be involved with the opening ceremonies, there will be a discussion panel as well as limited autograph sessions for their U.S. and international fans. CLAMP will also present a premiere screening of the highly anticipated Tsubasa anime at the Anime Expo. The Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC anime DVDs are expected later this year."---animenewsnetwork.com
I can already see the stampede to the autograph room and the blood & tears that follow. Anyone want to get me an autograph?

Date: 2006-04-11 01:41 am (UTC)The AXN Anime con crapped out like mad. What I woudn't give for a large scale con that actually involved proper, official merchandise and less local nonsense. We live in Asia, dammit; it's much closer to Japan than US will ever be!

Date: 2006-04-11 02:17 am (UTC)Why is it that the only thing we ever seem to do is 1) Cosplay 2) Buy pirated stuff we'll never look at a week later? And I completely agree about being in Asia and therefore closer to Japan. We need strategy, yo. -_-; We have the fans, now we just need the right setting for gatherings of the fans.

Date: 2006-04-11 02:29 am (UTC)The US has what we don't, however. I'm not sure how many fans actually show up at MSian cons, but I'm thinking the US has us beat. Sure, money is an important factor, and it's for that reason that I do agree that mangaka should take the time to visit their Asian fanbase, (or at least better, more interesting activities) because...man. I'd walk from Penang to KL if it meant being in the same room as CLAMP. That's revenue right there.

Date: 2006-04-11 02:34 am (UTC)Again, that's very true. I say that animanga fans are the most blind fans on earth. Art is a beautiful thing to appreciate, and I'll be damned if a con was happening in Sabah/Sarawak without me there.

Date: 2006-04-11 02:17 am (UTC)at least they are young and their manga relatively not even halfway done. clamp could still do more asian visits in years to come.

Date: 2006-04-11 02:20 am (UTC)But it would be nice if these mangakas would stop looking west all the time and take the time to visit their Asian fanbase that happens to be much larger.
